Three Questions on the A220 Program
Noticias caught up with Florent Massou, Head of the A220 Programme, to discuss the success of the A220.
1. What are the main features of the A220?
The A220 is a clean sheet design and the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100 to 150 seat market segment. This aircraft brings together state-of-the-art aerodynamics, advanced materials and latest-generation technologies and engines and is perfectly sized for the current market needs.
Additionally, the A220 offers superior single-aisle comfort, has the widest seats, the largest windows and 20 percent more overhead stowage space per passenger, providing flexibility for operators to right-size their operations.
The A220 Family is the ideal complement to the A320 Family.
2. What has made the A220 such a successful aircraft?
Many things! The feedback we constantly receive from our customers is amazing, these comments mainly focus on the A220’s high efficiency and performance, as well as its environmental benefits and overall comfort:
3. How many A220s have been ordered and delivered to date?
As of the end of August 2021, 25 customers around the world have ordered a total of 643 A220s; of which 173 aircraft have already been delivered and are in service with 10 operators: SWISS, airBaltic, Korean Air, Delta Air Lines, Air Tanzania, EgyptAir, Air Canada, JetBlue, Air Manas and Air Austral.
Most recently the US-based Breeze Airways reiterated its confidence in the A220 by revealing its new A220-300 livery, while confirming that it has reached a purchase agreement with Airbus for 20 more of the aircraft. This previously undisclosed order for 20 brings Breeze’s total order book to 80 A220-300s, the first of which will be delivered in Q4 2021.
