Airbus Expects Demand for Nearly 28,000 Commercial Aircraft Demand by 2030
Based on the latest Global Market Forecast (GMF) released in September, Airbus expects the market demand for commercial aircraft to reach 27,800 by 2030, while global passenger fleet are expected to double from its current 15,000 to 31,500 aircraft.
The estimated total value of the over 26,900 passenger aircraft (above 100 seats) and more than 900 new factory built freighters is US$3.5 trillion. Airbus projects that the trend for larger and eco-efficient aircraft will continue because 10,500 of new deliveries will be necessary to replace older less fuel-efficient aircraft.
In 20 years, the aviation sector will have to prepare itself for an increased demand for global travel. The traffic (in Revenue Passenger Kilometers or RPK’s) forecasted by Airbus will more than double, with an average growth of 4.8% per year.
Factors such as population growth with an economic wealth increase, emerging economies and strong continued growth expected in North American and European markets are the driving forces behind the aircraft necessity in 2030.
Over the next 20 years, Asia-Pacific will account for about 34 % of aircraft demand, followed by Europe (22 %) and North America (22 %). In terms of passenger traffic in domestic markets, India (with 9.8 %), China (with 7.2 %) and Brazil (6.6%) will have the fastest growth rates over the next 20 years.
The next Noticias will cover in more detail the 20-year demand for the Latin American & Caribbean market.
