A350-1000 Enhancements Make it More Appealing to Emerging Markets
In order to better fulfill today’s and future market requirements, Airbus has revealed a series of enhancements to the A350-1000 that will lead to greater capabilities.
By analyzing the new 350-seater markets and in particular, the growth and the new requirements from emerging markets, such as Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, Airbus determined it was necessary to increase the payload-range of the A350-1000.
This variant will now enjoy an increased MTOW of 308t (previously 298t) and a new thrust setting of 97,000lbs (previously 93k). This results in a range increase of +400nm and a payload increase of +4.5t beyond 5,000nm. The Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 delivers now more thrust, is flat rated to ISA+15ºC (previously ISA+10) and will therefore ensure better take-off performance as compared to its previous rating. It will also offer higher derate capabilities leading to even lower engine maintenance costs.
Compared to the 777-300ER, its direct competitor, the A350-1000 now offers systematically more payload and 400nm more range at maximum passenger payload. Moreover, all this comes with unbeatable 25% lower costs! In fact, to match the A350-1000 performance, the 777-300ER needs a MTOW 40t higher (20t more fuel with a 20t heavier structure).
The A350-1000 entry into service is planned for mid-2017, while its first flight is scheduled a year prior.
With Latin America’s fast growth rates and a constant need for larger aircraft, the A350-1000 becomes an even better option for the 350-seat market.
