Welcome to Airbus, may we take your order?
In 2017, Airbus closed the books with a record-breaking 1109 commercial aircraft orders and more than 700 deliveries to almost 90 customers worldwide. In Latin America, Airbus has set the bar even higher for itself as well, ending the year with more than 200 aircraft orders, representing 100 percent market share in the region.
2017 was not only a successful year for Airbus, but another year in which it broke its previous record. This was due in large part to the ever-growing number of carriers which are modernizing their fleets, expanding their networks, or in some cases, taking flight for the first time.
Low cost carriers such as JetSMART, Viva Air, and Volaris are all changing the market dynamics of affordable travel, bringing more passengers to the skies every year. All three airlines reaffirmed their commitment to the region’s signature aircraft family, in 2017, placing orders for 70, 50, and 80 A320 and A320neo Family aircraft respectively.
The A320 Family has proved itself to be the aircraft family of choice for the region, therefore it’s no surprise that the most significant milestone for 2017 was the signing of a historic purshase agreement for 430 A320 Family aircraft between Indigo Partners (whose carriers include JetSMART and Volaris) and Airbus.
Along with record-breaking orders, Latin America saw many milestone deliveries, too. Avianca received the first A321neo in Latin America; Interjet received its first A320neo, which was the first CFM-powered A320neo in Mexico; and JetSMART, the growing LCC in Chile, received its first aircraft ever, and launched operations with an A320.
