Innovative Tools, Services for Fuel Optimisation

As a fuel optimisation tool, FEMIS is a ground software application to be used for post-flight analysis, available for Airbus and non-Airbus aircraft.
The aim of FEMIS is to translate flight data into valuable information to improve flight efficiency (including fuel related matters).

FEMIS can collect flight data from two main sources:

1. Aircraft Flight Data Recorder
2. Flight Planning System Data

FEMIS provides airlines with the means to ease identification of potential savings in daily operations (capabilities to automatically process a large amount of data and to generate statistical information). The results of launched actions can continuously be further monitored with FEMIS.

Airlines can now identify areas of improvement in various domains, and accordingly take corrective actions such as adjusting flight planning predictions, optimizing taxi procedures and easing fuel contingency management.

FEMIS is also used in the framework of the recently created consulting service for Fuel & Flight Efficiency. These are designed to assist airlines in evaluating potential cost savings, implementing a fuel conservation program and in optimizing activities related to flight preparations, flight operations, maintenance and engineering.

This service consists of a modular and customized approach tailored to each customer’s context and needs, and allows the various Airbus experts involved to share best practices and new ideas, leading to better efficiency, while ensuring:
- latest standards are always used for performance databases,
- aircraft and equipment standards, along with Service Bulletins are available,
- fuel and flight efficiency tracking systems are brought to maturity.

Because this Airbus consulting service requires the involvement of various airline departments, it also creates an opportunity to raise awareness of fuel savings.
