First A321P2F enters into service, becomes newest addition to growing Airbus Freighter Family
Launched in 2015, the A321 passenger-to-freighter conversion (A321P2F) program has reached a new milestone with the delivery of the first-ever converted A321P2F to Qantas,, while the A320P2F program will be continuing its development in 2021.
The A321P2F, with its unique capability of containerized cargo in both the main (up to 14 full container positions) and lower deck (up to 10 container positions) offers a generous payload range capability with 28 metric tonnes carried over 2,800 nautical miles, ideal to address the growing demand for express freight in domestic and regional markets, especially in Latin America where air transport is sometimes the only efficient mean.
The A321P2F perfectly complements both A330-200F and A330P2F, the freighter variants of the most popular wide-body aircraft -- the A330 Family.
As any modern jetliner with Airbus fly-by-wire technology, the P2F family and the A330-200F benefit from flight crew and operational commonality, not only across the freighter portfolio, but also with the entire Airbus passenger aircraft offered today, for which Airbus has secured more than 55 percent of market share in the region.
P2F conversion aircraft are the result of a strategic partnership between Airbus, ST Engineering and Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) launched in 2012. Since then, DHL Express became the first A330-300P2F operator in December 2017, while the A330-200P2F joined the EgyptAir fleet in 2018.
The longer-fuselage A330-300P2F is particularly tailored for international express B2B and e-commerce cargo markets, resulting from its high volumetric payload capability, while the A330-200P2F offers longer-range performance to address even further markets.
