Airbus celebrates 50 years of Pioneering Progress
On Wednesday, May 29th, Airbus celebrated its first five decades. 50 years since the French Minister of Transport and the German Minister of Economic Affairs signed an agreement at the 1969 Paris Air Show for the joint-development of the A300 aircraft, a first European twin-aisle twin-engine jet for medium-haul air travel.
Since then, Airbus has become a leader in designing, manufacturing and delivering aerospace products, services and solutions to a customer base that spans the globe – with operations for commercial aircraft, helicopters, defence and space.
To learn about the many milestones that have defined what Airbus is today, Airbus has launched a global campaign celebrating the company's 50 year anniversary, showcasing key moments of pioneering progress throughout the past five decades.
Helping to shape Latin America's remarkable growth and continuous evolution, many of our Noticias Airbus readers will remember the historic "Three Amigos Deal" in 1998 when Chile-based LAN Airlines, El Salvador-based TACA Airlines and Brazil-based TAM Airlines placed the largest joint order in Latin American commercial aviation history for 90 single-aisle aircraft, with options for an additional 90. It is milestones like this that have helped Airbus become a market leader, with nearly 1200 aircraft sold and more than 700 currently in operation.
