Airbus Queretaro, an expanding manufacturing site

Inaugurated in February 2013, the state of Queretaro is home to Airbus' first manufacturing facility in Mexico. Located in the Aerotech Industrial Park, the 14,000 m2 site is directly linked to the Donaworth (Aircraft Doors Centre of Excellence) facility in Germany.

The Airbus Queretaro plant currently employs more than 400 people and produces Emergency Exit Hatch and Doors, Bulk Cargo Doors and Cargo Doors for the single-aisle and widebody (A330) aircraft, producing on average nearly 4,000 aircraft doors per year, from raw material to final assembly.

The production site is currently running at 500,000 hours per year and has delivered more than 25,000 doors and more than 660,000 parts and components since it opened. It also produces nearly 180,000 individual parts, kinematics and subassemblies, which are shipped to Germany and 15,000 parts that are sent to France.

In addition, the Queretaro manufacturing site has a training academy, which has been recognised and awarded within Airbus for its focus on product quality. The academy was inaugurated in 2018 and replicates the production lines to which production operators will be assigned, providing a production-controlled environment for employees to acquire and improve their skills.

As part of Airbus' commitment to continue investing in the Mexican aerospace industry, the State of Querétaro and Airbus signed a cooperation agreement in July 2024 to expand Airbus' industrial activities and new production processes in Mexico. This expansion will allow Airbus to increase its local industrial capacity, enabling the facility to reach a production rate of 20 sets (four doors per set) of single-aisle passenger doors per month from 2026, and a rate of 48 cargo doors per month from 2027.

This industrial expansion and new production processes will support the single-aisle ramp-up and increase the workforce to around 800 by the end of the decade. The doors will be manufactured through a significant investment in state-of-the-art machinery, including a new riveting center for drilling and riveting the outer skins to the door structures and a high precision drilling machine to install the door hinge to the fuselage.
