SKY Airline becomes all-Airbus operator

SKY Airline, Airbus solidify partnership with fleet renewal and new product services

SKY Airline has reached a major milestone in their 11 years of operations. In July, the airline retired its last 737-200 and received its 15th Airbus aircraft. Now an all-Airbus carrier, the second biggest passenger and cargo airline of Chile, SKY flies 11 A319s and four A320s and offers its loyal passengers greater cabin space and comfort.

According to SKY Airline, their fleet rollover has helped lower their fuel costs by 40 percent and dramatically reduced the cost per available seat kilometer by 22 percent. Since its creation, SKY Airline growth has consistently been above 20 percent and thanks to the additional range capability provided by the A320 Family, SKY’s international traffic has grown six fold since the introduction of the first A320 in 2010.

The A320 Family provides SKY Airline and its passengers with all the well-known benefits associated with Airbus aircraft, including innovative design, cutting-edge avionics and superior fuel efficiency and noise reduction. But perhaps the most important feature for passengers of the A320 Family is its cabin comfort. SKY’s 11 A319s and four A320s now provide passengers with the widest cabin available in the single-aisle market. That means wider seats, a wider aisle and more personal space.

"SKY Airline’s fleet rollover to the A320 Family is a perfect example of how to switch to the latest generation aircraft and benefit from proven reliability, higher efficiency, lowest operating costs and improved passenger comfort," said Rafael Alonso, Executive Vice President for Airbus in Latin America and the Caribbean. ”We are very proud to be able to include SKY Airline among our top operators in Latin America.”

In addition to renewing its fleet, SKY Airline has also made large-scale investments in a variety of Airbus products and services to enhance their aircraft operations, including new navigation RNP-AR procedures, real-time aircraft health monitoring (AIRMAN) and advanced tools for analyzing flight operations (AirFase, SAMS).
