The start of a new era for TAME

TAME reveals expansion plans while increasing their A319 fleet

TAME Airline of Ecuador has been in the aviation industry since 1962, an impressive 50 years of sustained trajectory and gradual growth. After consolidating their domestic market and successfully achieving their objectives, TAME has decided to open the door to a new era of expansion.

The willingness of the airline to promote Ecuador outside its frontiers as well as to connect passengers to international destinations is underway thanks to an agreement with Copa Airlines signed last April and the subsequent opening of flights from Quito and Guayaquil to Panama. TAME has also started flying recently to La Havana and Bogota. These routes will be followed by other international destinations such as Caracas starting in September 2012, Lima and Buenos Aires by the end of the year, followed by New York and Sao Paulo, at the beginning of 2013.

In order to achieve their aggressive international expansion plans, TAME is trusting in the A319 module, having added another two aircraft to its Airbus fleet and now operating a total of six Airbus A320 Family aircraft. The A319 size makes it a perfect route opener while its excellent take-off performance from “hot & high” airports and its range allows it to serve farther destinations.

For denser routes such as Quito-Bogota, the airline is leaning on their higher capacity A320 aircraft featuring as well a larger cargo capacity that will allow for additional revenue. With this, TAME proves to be a perfect example of the efficient use of the A320 Family aircraft, operating different modules while adapting the aircraft size to their network and needs.
