Interjet becomes latest A321 operator in Mexico

This month yet another airline in Mexico has chosen the A321 to complement their fleet and this time it is Interjet!

Stepping up to the A321 after operating A320s for over 10 years was a natural choice for Interjet. The larger A320 Family member allows Interjet to increase capacity on its trunk routes, provides unbeatable economics when compared to any aircraft in its class and offers a solution towards relieving congestion at Mexico City’s Benito Juárez International Airport.

This brand new A321, configured with 192 seats was delivered to Interjet in September and entered service this October. In its first phase, it will be used by the airline to connect Mexico City and cities such as Cancun, Monterey and Tijuana.

In fact, the number of Latin American and Caribbean operators which are following this trend is on the rise.

Today, four Latin American operators fly 64 A321 aircraft  in the region. Based on current orders the A321 fleet in the  region will double over next five few years. On a global level, it is forecasted that the A321 will have surpassed the 40 percent mark of the A320 in-service fleet by 2017.

2017 will also mark the arrival of Interjet’s first A321neos. This is yet another improvement to an already best-in-class aircraft, proving that the best just keeps getting better. With its next-generation fuel-efficient engines Airbus is on to another winner, and Mexican airlines are already eyeing this new arrival.
